Chayote

The chayote is a green pear-shaped fruit, also known by its 'vegetable pear' name. It's related to the cucumber and pumpkin family and is often used in stews and salads. The outside is smooth, or can feel quite prickly, with four constricted folds. The flesh is light green to white and crunchy and seems similar to the taste of a cucumber.
